Backup, Restore & Migrate

The Backup, Restore & Migrate capability lets the AI Assistant work with your organization’s backup stack to protect VMs and workloads, run restores, and support migration-style operations where the product integration allows it.

Features​

  • Full VM Backup — Capture workload images or backup vendor–specific full backups according to the tool you connect.
  • Backup Scheduling — Align jobs with maintenance windows and retention policies (as supported by the integrated backup product).
  • Restore Operations — Recover files, volumes, or full instances from restore points the assistant can see.
  • Migration Capabilities — Where supported, plan or execute moves between hosts, storage tiers, or environments with guardrails.

Configuration Flow​

  1. Enable the Backup, Restore & Migrate in Capability Configuration during AI Assistant setup (or when editing an assistant).
  2. Select Backup Tool — Pick the backup or data protection integration available for your environment (for example a vendor connector or service exposed in the Select Tool dropdown).
  3. Choose Infrastructure Resources — Scope which VMs, groups, or policies this assistant may reference for backup and restore conversations and actions.
  4. Configure Backup Policies — Set schedules, retention, and targets per your tool’s requirements; the assistant uses these definitions when automating or advising.

Exact labels and supported tools depend on your Wanclouds AI deployment and licensed integrations.

Operational Notes​

  • Backup actions can be capacity-intensive; production changes should follow your change-management process.
  • The assistant’s scope is still limited by its connector and credentials—it cannot reach resources outside the configured environment.
