Using MCPs

With an AI Assistant

When creating an assistant, you can add MCPs in two ways:

• MCP Only Mode – The assistant relies only on MCP servers (no on-prem or cloud connectors). You must select at least one MCP.
• Optional MCPs – Add MCPs alongside an on-prem or cloud environment for extended capabilities (e.g. monitoring, logging).

Once configured, the assistant automatically uses the selected MCPs when answering questions and taking action in chat.

Standalone in Chat

You can use MCPs without an assistant by selecting them directly in the sidebar:

1. Under MCP Servers in the sidebar, select one or more MCPs.
2. Start chatting — the conversation uses only the selected MCP tools and resources, with no assistant involved.
